Iribov
Iribov is a service company that offers a wide array of laboratory techniques to plant breeding and plant production companies. The company has 3 divisions, the main division is tissue culture for production and breeding support. The other two are Analytical Services and Greenhouse Services.
Iribov is an independent company, which works only for third parties and does not have its own breeding activities nor marketing activities and is therefore open to all clients, with no conflicts of interests. As a service company Iribov serves large and small companies, and to deliver a wide crop portfolio. Currently the company is operating in more than 300 crops.

The Netherlands
The main location of the company is Heerhugowaard in The Netherlands. Two production companies are located in North-Macedonia and Ghana, mainly for large scale tissue culture production.
Iribov uses tissue culture to produce half material for breeders, develops protocols for multiplication and produces (certified) starting material for large-scale production.In the analytical laboratory of Iribov flow cytometry and molecular methods are developed and executed for diverse applications. The company is also active in the supply of flow cytometers.The greenhouse has two main groups of service: the hardening of young plants and growing plants for special goals such as plants for breeding, certifications, bio assays, mother plants for tissue culture projects etc. Iribov has its own greenhouse facility for this purpose with a large array of greenhouse compartments and phytotrons.
Nowadays the total Iribov group employs ca 500 people.
Macedonia
SBW Romero Vitro is a tissue culture laboratory and presents large-scale production center of Iribov BV from Heerhugowaard, The Netherlands. It is located in Vinica, a small town at river Bregalnica valley in the eastern part of Macedonia.

Production started in August 2001, after training Macedonian employees at the home company in The Netherlands. The starting material for the production is received from the home company. All products are exported back to The Netherlands, from where the plants are distributed to our clients.
SBW Romero Vitro has a permanent growth as a company. Now the company has 25 large culture rooms and five transfer rooms. This provides the company with the capacity to produce more than twenty million plants annually. Whole capacity at this moment is executed with 300 employees who contribute to the permanent growth and development of the company. In 2021 an large extension of the lab was realised, after this the company has ca 10.000 m2 of laboratory available.
Ghana
Iribov West Africa is part of the Iribov group in The Netherlands. The company is located in Sogakope in the Volta Region of Ghana and has a tissue culture laboratory (Iribov West Africa Ltd.) and a nursery operation (Iribov Ghana Ltd.) and employs over 100 people. Our laboratory has a capacity to produce 10 million plants per year and we have an advanced nursery of 5.000 m2. The company started operation in 2005 to produce pineapple MD2 suckers for farmers in Ghana in a project supported by the World Bank.
The main activity of the company is clonal propagation of plants for the global market of plant-breeders, growers and farmers.
A part of the production from the tissue culture laboratory is exported to serve the European sales program of the company and another part is grown in the nursery operation in Ghana to distribute to plantations and farmers in Ghana. Besides this we are doing clonal grafting of several tree crops.
It is the ambition of Iribov West Africa to become the leading producer of improved planting material for farmers in Ghana and the rest of West Africa.
Currently the company is producing improved planting material by using tissue culture and advance nursery technology for:
– fruit crops (Pineapple, Papaya, Passionfruit, Mango, Avocado, Citrus, Banana and Plantain)
– tuber crops (Ginger, Turmeric, Yam, Sweet Potato, Cassava)
– other crops (Cashew, Cocoa, Sugarcane and Bamboo)
We are involved in several projects with GIZ, ComCashew, Hortifresh, SNV and IITA and we also have strong cooperative ties with CSIR CRI and SARI, PPRSD and CRIG.
