Marker Assisted Breeding

The use of genetic markers for breeding becomes more mainstream due to the availability to genomic data and new sequencing techniques. At Iribov we offer a range of markers for different phenotypic traits several crops (e.g. tomato, capsicum, and cucumis). We also develop markers, often in collaboration with customers for specific traits. In order to develop marker, we also have the facilities to phenotype plants.

Sampling and pre-screening

For analysing markers we need a small leaf sample of a seedling to run a large amount of markers (up to 50). In this way a breeder can already screen the progeny before having to plant them in pots or the greenhouse for further phenotyping. It should however be noted that the link with a phenotype depends on the genetics that is used. This means that every breeder has to validate whether our markers are linked to their traits. For example by screen their parental lines.

Know better. Grow better.
